Nordic standard ply construction

Nordic offers a wide range of plys per shell, from 5 to 10 plys to be exact. So you can order whatever size you want, or we can try to match a millimeter thickness if you have something specific in mind as well. If you are looking for more than 10 plys, contact us and we'll see if we can accommodate your special request.  In our Standard woods, we use 1/36" rotary cut veneer, all sourced from the upper Midwest, with the exception of Mahogany (Africa 42”/Asia 32”). Almost all of our other woods are 1/42" thick.

Ply thickness for our Standard woods (except Mahogany)
5 ply 3.5mm /.37in
6 ply = 4.2mm /.165in

7 ply = 5mm /.196in
8 ply = 5.6mm /.22in
9 ply = 6.3mm /.248in
10 ply = 7mm /.275in

Most other shell manufacturers use lower-grade materials like C or D quality wood for their cores, while Nordic uses best-in-grade, typically an A or B.  We also use whole pieces in our cores, not a patchwork of scraps and extras.

And because we use state-of-the-art equipment, our seams are straight cut, precision fitted and staggered for strength. No ugly gapping or filler to cover up poor craftsmanship.
